In 1978, the Edgemont real estate market became part of a major local development whose final phase was completed in 2005. One unique fact about the neighbourhood is that it has the highest elevations in the city. The highest point is 1,245 metres above sea level.

The neighbourhood sits between Country Hills Boulevard in the north, Shaganappi Trail in the east, John Laurie Boulevard in the south and Sarcee Trail in the west. It is divided into sections, including Edgepark, Edgeridge, Edgevalley, Edgebrook, Edgehill and Edgedale. All parts of the city are easily accessible to residents of the community thanks to the excellently developed road infrastructure.

The affluent neighbourhood has large luxury estates worth millions of dollars as well as moderately priced single-family houses. The ownership rate is nearly 90% and this helps to keep the community well cared for. In addition to detached family homes, there are townhomes and condos available as well. Edgemont is home to a large number of schools. Elementary schools range from the public Edgemont and Captain John Palliser to the French Banff Trail and separate Mother Mary Green. There are separate junior high schools, such as St. Jean Brebeuf and ones with instruction in French, like Branton. The choice of high schools ranges from public Sir Winston Churchill to French St. Francis and William Aberhart.
