Condos For Sale in Downtown East Village
Downtown East Village Condominium Market
As recently as 2005, a whopping 83% of the homes were rented properties. As a result, Downtown East Village properties were traditionally scarce. Although there are a small number of single-family homes available, the vast majority of housing here is apartment blocks and condominiums. This is continuing with the most recent stage of the redevelopment, with further apartment blocks and condominium towers being built.
Going back as far as 1875, the East Village was Calgary. From this central location, the city slowly but surely expanded around it. As the downtown sector has grown, the Downtown East Village area has become a standalone residential area. Although it was always ideally situated, much of the area fell into disrepair, and many buildings and lots were left vacant. This, in part, is what prompted the recent redevelopment of this perfectly central location.
Hundreds of millions of dollars have been invested into the recent development plan, and this money has been pumped into renovation, construction and infrastructure. The final plan for the East Village divides the area into four distinct areas, each with its own unique personality and attractions. This area is also home to a number of key historic buildings, and they are being restored and incorporated into the new plans. These include the Hillier Block, the St. Louis Hotel and the Simmons Building.
In 2025, 120 condos were sold in Downtown East Village with an average price of $346,561 and an average 51 days on market.
Downtown East Village Building Amenities
As part of the restructuring plan, the city is introducing new walkways, bridges and amenities that serve to better connect the area to the rest of the city. The St. Patrick's Bridge connects the Downtown East Village to the main area of downtown, while St. Patrick's Island reopened in the summer of 2015. The island has been restored and will welcome nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts to a wonderfully cultivated natural landscape that offers the perfect escape from the nearby bustling city.
The East Village Neighbourhood Association offers a variety of volunteer and information services.
A Neighbourhood With Deep Roots and a Fresh Look
East Village sits beside the area where Calgary’s early growth began around Fort Calgary (1875)—and today it’s one of the city’s biggest inner-city success stories.
Since 2007, East Village has been guided by a long-term revitalization plan led by CMLC, including $400M+ in infrastructure investment that has attracted nearly $4B in planned private investment.
